Utilization Of Professional Code Of Conduct In School Counseling. A Panacea for Sustainable Governance in Umuahia Zone Of Abia State:- Chikezie, S. C
Abstract
The study investigated the extent of utilization of
professional code of conduct in school counseling: A panacea for sustainable
governance. Three research questions and one hypothesis was raised to guide the
study. The design for the study was a descriptive survey, the area of study is
Umuahia Education zone of Abia State. The population consists practicing
guidance counselors in educational zone of Abia State of Abia State. Purposive
sampling technique was used to select 60 counsellors. The instrument for data
collection was a researchers structured questionnaire tagged "extent of
utilization of professional code of conduct questionnaire" EUPCCQ The
instrument is a modified Likert scale Face validity of the instrument was
established by administering the instruments to two experts in the field of
Physiology and Counseling and one expert Measurement and Evaluation. The
reliability of EUPCCQ" was established using Cronbach Alpha and it yield a
coefficient value of 0. 72, 0. 78 and 0. 76 for section 2,3 and 4 respectively.
Method bf data analysis included mean standard deviation and t-test statistics.
The result showed the counselors, to' a high extent, utilize professional code
of conduct in school counseling. The major recommendation is that was
practicing counseling should ensure absolute compliance to counseling ethics
