Impact Of Counselling Services 'Social Behavioural Problem Of Senior Secondary School Students In Umuahia Education Zone Of Abia State :- Salome Chidinma, C
Abstract
This study investigated impact of Counselling
services on social behavioural problem of senior secondary school students in
Umuahia Education Zone of Abia State. The design of the study was correlational
research design. The sample size for the study comprised of 340 respondents
randomly selected while a researchers' selfdeveloped questionnaire titled:
Students Behavioural Problems Questionnaires (SBPQ) was used for data
collection. Three experts validated the SBPQ instrument in Psychology, Counselling
and Measurement and Evaluation all in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike and a Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient method was employed to
ensure the reliability of the SBPQ instrument, which yielded r = 0.77
coefficients. Six research questions were analyzed using Pearson Moment Product
Correlation and six null hypotheses guided the study. Linear regression was
used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. Based on the data
collected and analyzed, the study showed that: Counselling services to a very
high positive extent correlates with aggressive. alcohol abuse, absenteeism,
smoking among secondary school students Counselling services to a very low but
positive extent correlates with social behavioural problem based on gender. A
major educational implication of the findings is that social behavioural
problems of secondary school students depend on their Counselling services. It
is therefore, I€commended that, advisors should go beyond the academic field
and help students {o improve and understand how Counselling services may shape
