Abstract
The study sought to determine dance as a tool
for improving healthy life-style of physically challenged students in secondary
schools in Imo State and counselling implications. The descriptive survey
research design was adopted for the study. The study was guided by three
research questions. The target population consisted of 96 physically challenged
students in 8 secondary schools that run inclusive education in Imo State. A
sample of 80 respondents were randomly selected and used for the study. A
34-item questionnaire was designed usingthe four point modified Likert type
scale model and was validated by the research experts. The reliability of the
instrument was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and yielded
a coefficient of 0.83. The research questions were answered using mean and
standard deviation statistics. The result showed that dance has impact in
physical development of healthy lifestyle of the physically challenged students.
The study also revealed that dance impacts on the emotional and social
development of healthy lifestyle of physically challenged students.The study
concluded that physically challenged students should be allowed to participate
in dance and other physical activities that go on in the main stream academic
environment. The study however, recommended that physically challenged students
should be encouraged to participate in dance during physical and health
education classes for this will equally t0WardS enf0rcement of national Policy
on education which is the key to inclusive education
