ABSTRACT
This work tries to analyze the effect of marketing on
tourism development in Abia State with particular interest in selected tourism
potentials in the State. The objectives of this research, were; to identify the
various tourist destinations in the study area, to determine the medium media
used in advertising the identified tourism destination in the study area, to
verify the impacted of advertisement the level of patronage of the selected
tourist site in Abia State, to ascertain ways of improving the methods of
development for high rate of tourist to the destinations. Literatures on
tourism were reviewed. A well-structured questionnaire was used in gathering
the relevant data, simple descriptive statistics such as percentages and
frequencies were used to analyze the data generated for the study. The fmdings
of the study revealed that National War Museum, Umuahia was the most visited
tourism destination in Abia State; with a result show that 56.8% of all the
tourists have visited the destination, Wonder tree in Amakama was the second
most visited destination with 32.7% of the tourist. The researcher hereby
recommended that advertisement and marketing of tourist destinations in Abia
State requires good budgetary funding and professional human resources in order
to bring the tourism destinations in Abia State to the globally acceptable
standard.
