Assessing The Effect Of Family Roles In The Purchase Desc1sion Process In Umuahia Abia State
ABSTRACT
The study investigated on assessing
the effect of family role in the purchase decision process with reference to
Umuahia, Abia State. The objective of the study are to identify the factors
that influence consumers purchase decision, to assess the effects of family member's
role in the consumer purchase decision and also to measure the effectiveness
of family member's role in the consumer purchase decision. To achieve the
objectives of the study, correlational research design was used, a total of 400
questionnaires were administered to the respondents of which 360 were
completely filled and returned representing 90 %. The findings revealed that
cultural factors like family culture, background, family value etc. influence
consumer purchase decision. Social factors like class, role, and status
influence consumer purchase decision. Family member's income influence consumer
purchase decision. Position of the consumer in the family influence in his
purchased decision and also the family members have greater influence in the purchase
decision of adolescent. The research recommends that consumers should have
specific purchase pattern to enable them make effective budgeting
