ABSTRACT

This work gives an overview of the purchasing and the supply methods in the University system. The main objectives is to examine, Analyze, and assess the problem inherent in the purchasing and supply methods in Abia State University central store in achieving their stated goals. The study adopted a descriptive design-using questionnaire in eliciting information from the respondents. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistic and the chi-square statistical tool. The research study has confirmed that the central store is well organized and managed by a team of well-qualified personnel. From the findings, the researcher find out that there is a good appraisal of purchasing and supply methods in the University system. It was recommended that there should be easy carboned document like the store receipt voucher, the LPO and the CRIV, and delivery notes. There should also be need for separate Administrative block for management staff and their supporting staff. Efforts should be geared towards positioning suppliers in honoring local purchase order. Lectures and seminars should be organized periodically in order to keep staff members up to date in the performance of their duties.
