Studies On African Oil Bean Plant As A Corrosion Inhibitor For Low Carbon Steel In Crude Oil:- Egbe Samuel C

Michael Okpara University | Projects

ABSTRACT

This research work was performed on five distinct parts ofthe African oil bean plant (leaves, pods, seed shells, bark and root) and involved extraction, corrosion inhibition test oflow carbon steel in crude oil utilizing gravimetric analyses. The sample morphology was evaluated. The rate of corrosion of low carbon steel specimens in the plant extract was observed to decrease with immersion time (120hrs-792hrs) and increase in the concentration of extracts by increasing their ratio with respect to the medium. The inhibitors inhibitory efficiency (IE) increased with time (120hrs-792hrs) demonstrating a physisorption ofextracts on the carbon steel surface. All the parts ofthe plant showed good inhibition efficiency in the medium ranging from 82.11% to 99.02% but the pod was the best with an inhibitory efficiency of 99.02%
