ABSTRACT

This work titled "The problems and prospect of marketing of public utilities" was carried out with Nigerian Postal services (NIPOST) as a case study. It should be noted that public utility services are essential to the state and the masses, as it assist in enhancing their standard of living. The researcher identified the major problems inherent in our public utilities under the present economic dispensation with particular emphasis on NIPOST and suggested ways of alleviating them. In the same vein, the purpose of the study among other things was to determine the ideas, attitudes and views held by customers concerning NIPOST and the extent to which services of NIPOST was demanded compared to other public utilities. The research methodology revealed the various sources of - data collection. Questionnaires were administered personally to both the management of NIPOST and the consumers. Also, personal interview were held with the functional heads of the organization. These were analyzed in chapter four. The summary of findings, conclusion and recommendations shown in chapter five are entirely the researcher and those concerned have the option to fitter and use them. It was found out that promotional activities which where necessary to make consumers and other public with which an organization interacts are not aware of the existence of a product or service which where being handled with levity in NIPOST. It was also found that NIPOST operations were greatly influenced by the government and it was recommended that the management of NIPOST should be customer and marketing oriented which will go a long way to enhance their marketing operations.
