ABSTRACT

A feeding trial was carried out with 120 day old broiler chicks to determine the performance of starter broiler fed diets supplemented with El-Rox feed additive: The experimental design was a completely randomized design (CRD). The birds were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments of 30 birds per treatment. Each treatment was replicated- three times with IO birds in a treatment. The inclusion' levels of the El-Rox feed additive were; 0.0%, 0.20%, 0.40% and 0.60% for treatment 1. 2. 3 and 4 respectively. Parameters measured were final live weight, weight gain. feed intake and protein intake while the parameters calculated were feed conversion ratio. protein efficiency ratio and feed costs. The results of this study showed that there were no significant differences (PO.05) in all the parameters measured except the feed conversion ratio in which broilers fed diet T3, had a better feed conversion ratio (3.00) than those fed diet T2(3.51). Increase in the level of the El-Rox in the diet resulted in significant (P<0.05) decrease in the daily feed cost. The cost/kg weight gain of broilers fed the control diet f,W 309 .07) was significantly lower than those of broilers fed T2 diet (N 377.26) and T4 diet (W. 378.36 ). It was concluded that finisher broilers couJd be fed with 0.60 inclusion level of the El-Rox for improved performance.
