ABSTRACT
This research work, a 126MW dry low NOX (DNL) gas turbine(GT) was examined, targeting the performance assessment and environmental considerations of the plant at various conditions of grid operations. The objective required an evaluation of the plant parameters and its ecological effect, which can only be obtained through thermodynamic and life data simulation for both ISO and after commissioning performance. The performance parameter of consideration includes input and output values, turbine inlet temperature (TIT), exergy efficiency and exergy destruction rate and their corresponding effects on ecological indices at various state point. Energy and exergy analysis of the gas turbine (GT) components were evaluated, and for each case considerations, decisions were taken based on thermodynamic evaluations. The research data were obtained from National Integrated Power Plant(NIPP). The results obtained after commissioning vary from ISO data result of ambient temperature, the turbine inlet temperature, and the mass flow rate of air into the system. Due to this variation, both the net turbine output and the power output reduces. The Result of performance index are Compressor work(164.84MW), Turbine work(229.94MW), Net turbine output (135.10MW), Energy Efficiency (35.48%), Exergy efficiency (33.86%) Ecological efficiency of (0.9536) and performance index after commissioning are Compressor work (173.2), Turbine work(268.4MW), Net turbine output (95.2MW), Energy Efficiency (32.38%), Exergy efficiency (27.43%) Ecological efficiency of (0.9343). The compressor work, the turbine work, net turbine output, energetic and exergetic efficiencies, as well as the ecological efficiencies varied considerably. The turbine work and net turbine output dropped from 299.94 MW and 135.10MW to 268.4 MW and 95.2 MW. The implication of result on ecological efficiency of 95.36percent (%), as witnessed by this plant showed minimal impact to the environment, as a result of combustion dynamics, where temperature leaving the chamber is maintained below NOX formation temperature for all mode of system operations.
