ABSTRACT
This research designed and
produced a near-real-time daily C02 emission and energy demand data for an
800KVA Turbocharged Perkins Diesel Powered Generating sets in Michael Okpara
University ofAgriculture Umudike, the CO2 emission from diesel fuel combustion
and energy generation from August 1, 2021 to September 2, 2021 was collected
and analysed. This was achieved through the design of a carbon dioxide and
energy demand measuring system. From the data collected it was found that the
highest real time carbon dioxide emission recorded was 4949ppm at an energy
demand of 388KW from the MOUAU admin block, the least real time carbon dioxide
emission was 3821ppm at an energy demand of372KW. Calculating Pearson’s
correlation coefficient indicated a fairly strong linear relationship between
energy demand and carbon dioxide emission of the 800KVA Turbocharged Perkins
Diesel Powered Generating set. To achieve lower carbon emissions it is
recommended that the administration considers a hybrid power solution
comprising a solar and diesel electricity generating set, in addition it is
recommended that the generating set be fitted with catalytic exhaust converters
to ensure lower carbon dioxide emissions
