ABSTRACT

This study was on determinants of customers patronage of grocery stores in Umuahia north Abia state Nigeria. The study specifically looked at the socio economic characteristics of respondents loyalty. The grocery stores, level of loyalty to grocery stores and factors influencing household loyalty of grocery store. Primary data was used in this study. Primary data was collected by the use of structured questionnaire. 200 respondents were randomly selected for the study. Simple descriptive statistics such as mean, percentages and regression were used in analysing data. The result shows that majority of the respondents were females, singles and educated. In addition, the bulk of the respondents indicated that south eastern Nigeria as their geopolitical zones/had their state of origin from south eastern Nigeria. Furthermore, respondents were majorly involved in trading/business. Moreso, majority ofthe respondents signifies that they would like to shop more for goods and services from grocery stores and recommend same to others. Finally, age, level of education, distance of residence from grocery store and household size were significant factors influencing amount spent on grocery stores. Operators of grocery stores should make available goods and services at affordable prices
