ABSTRACT

Development is what every organization struggles to achieve and maintain in the long run as it is what keeps every organization in business. In an effective organization, the vision, values and mission are derived from the convictions of people in the organization and from all other components of the organization. Organizations can only win a competitive advantage through people. This implies that an organization cannot exist and survive without humans because the most valuable factor of production is the human factor. In today's fast changing business environment and tough global competition, employees are finding it difficult to function at optimum level. Organizational development is now considered a natural process for effective development of the employees. This is now standing as a challenge and for this reason organizations are finding it difficult and also striving hard to induce commitment in their employees. They are using different means and method to bring about development in the organization. The main objective of this research work is to evaluate the impact of organizational development on employee performance using Diamond Bank Pie branches Umuahia as a case study. The research work adopted a survey research design to carry out the findings in which questionnaires were administered to selected respondents by the researcher. Primary and secondary sources of data were used for the purpose of this study. Simple random sampling technique was used by the researcher where every employee in the organization had equal chance of being selected Data collected were analyzed using descriptive analyses (frequency, standard deviation. mean and percentage) and inferential statistics (correlation). The study revealed that organizational development has positive and significant impact on employee performance (r=0.716; p<0.05). Reward system, Training and development has positive and significant impact on organizational development (R=0.661p,0.05). Organizational development exerts a high level of effect on employee performance. The study recommends that organizations should prepare a comprehensive and integrated system of performance management for building the employee performance. Training and development programs should be designed in such a way that they enable employees to gain knowledge and skills for present jobs and for next higher jobs as well. A fair and transparent reward system should be developed and implemented to build trust and loyalty among employees and management.
