ABSTRACT
The study examined the effect of employee
retention on organizational performance (A Study of Selected Manufacturing
Firms in Abia State). The study sought to ascertain effect of Salaries and Promotion
on employee job satisfaction, assess the effect of rewards and job security on
organizational performance, examine the effect of empowerment and participation
on organizational effectiveness and ascertain the effect of training and
development on organizational efficiency of Selected Manufacturing Firms in
Abia State. This research adopted a descriptive survey design. This study
adopted two sources of data collection which are primary data and secondary
data. The population ofthe study 238 constituted the entire staff of Starlines
Company Ltd Aba Abia State, PZ Cussons Ltd Aba, 7up bottling Company Aba, Abia
State. Thus, the sample size of 149 respondents was determined from Taro Yamane
formula. A total of number of one hundred and forty nine (149) questionnaire
were distributed to the respondents in the study area. Out of this number a
total of oneohundred and thirty nine (139) were returned while ten (10) were
rejected as a result ofirregularities in the response pattern. Which constitute
93.3% that formed the basis of this study. The simple random sampling method
was used to gather information from the respondents. Ordinary least square and
multiple model used employed to test the relationship between the dependent and
independent variables. The findings of the study showed that Salaries and
Promotion has a significant impact on employee job satisfaction of Selected
Manufacturing Firms in Abia State. The study concluded that Training and
development has a significant effect on employee job attitude of Selected
Manufacturing Firms in Abia State. The study recommended that organization
should consider rewards and job security as a satisfactory form of appreciation
that will stop employee thinking about other opportunities from other
organization.
