ABSTRACT

The study examined the factors influencing travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State. The specific objectives were to examine the influence of attractiveness on travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State, to ascertain the influence of amenities on travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State, to determine the influence of activities on travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State and to ascertain the influence of accessibility on travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State ,to explore the influence of available package on travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State. The study population comprised of all the travelers to Akwa Ibom State. These includes Akwa Ibom State includes Ibeno Beach, Ibeno, House of Tara, Uyo, Lord Luggard’s Residence, Ikot Abasi, Raffia City Plaza, Itu Hills, Ikot Ekpene, Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center, Uyo, Ibiobio Museum and State Park, Uyo, National Museum of Colonial History, Uyo Lord Lugard's Residence, Ikot Abasi, National Museum, Uyo. Ibibio Museum and Le Meridien Hotel, Uyo. The study sample size was 385 respondents. The stated objectives were analysed five 5-point likert scale. The study findings revealed that Location, time to get to the destination, cost of lodging in accommodation, quality of natural resource, safety and security, availability of means of transport to reach the destination, climatic condition of the destination, personal Income disposal, hobbies and personal interests, life style, Information received from the destination and family and Friends recommendations were the attractiveness factors that influence traveler choice of tourism destination. Availability of water, availability of power supply , better medical facilities , recreation facilities like swimming pools, tennis courts, spas, steam baths, parking facilities, school building, availability of airport, Internet facilities and room Amenities, Kid equipment and medical/entertainment instrument were amenities factors that influence choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State. Sport activities, cultural activities, religious activities, social activities choice of destination and relaxation activities were the activities factors that influence travelers choice of tourism destination in Akwa Ibom State, .Accessibility to location , accessibility to transportation system, accessibility to the conducive environment and access to good security network were accessibility factors that influence travellers choice of
