ABSTRACT
The study evaluated workload among employees in Nigerian
Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). Specifically, the study identified the
nature of workload in NSITF, Abuja, Factors responsible for quantitative
(excess) workload among the employees, the consequences of excess workload on
the employees and the strategies for managing excess workload. The study
adopted survey research design. The population for the study comprised all the
employees in the 12 units of NSITF, Abuja office, a total of314 while a total
sample size of 176 respondents were selected for the study. Information was
gathered from both primary and secondary sources. Data were generated using
well structured questionnaire. Out of the 176 copies of the questionnaires
administered, 145 copies representing 82% were correctly filled and returned
while 31 copies representing 1 8% were not returned. Percentages, means and
Analysis of Variance were used to analyze the data collected. The major
findings revealed that the employees in NSITF are having challenges of
quantitative (excess) workload; also revealed are sixteen (16) factors
responsible for the employees having quantitative (excess) workload, Fourteen
(14) consequences of having quantitative (excess) workload and fifteen (15)
strategies that could be employed for managing the consequences of quantitative
(excess) workload. In view of the above findings, the following recommendations
were made. The general public and employees in Nigerian social Insurance Trust
Fund in particular should make the findings of this study a hand book and refer
to it from time to time. Through this way the consequences of excess workload
could be prevented
