ABSTRACT
This project is focused on the evaluation of the impact of
untreated sewage effluent on farm lands. The experiment was done on a piece of
land where three plots were made for the three treatments and the selected seed
was planted. The seed used was cucumber. They were spaced two meters apart from
each other and this is to avoid contamination of one treatment by another.
After the ridges are made, the soils was treated in three different ways; with
sewage effluent, with fertilizers (NPK) and with zero treatment. Use of sewage
water for irrigation improved vegetative properties and fertility status in
soil. Sewage water contains elements essential for plant growth. To prove this
statement, an experiment was conducted to ascertain the effects of sewage
effluent in agricultural fields through sewage water irrigation for grass crop
in the farmlands. The experiment involved the use of two treatments to grow a
crop and this treatment was replicated thrice due to the size of the land. This
experiment involves the preparation of the land into beds and applying various
treatments to the soil after which the crop was planted and after three weeks
the plant with the sewage treatment had an impressive vegetative growth though
the treatment with fertilizer had the best vegetative growth. After monitoring
and taking readings of the stem height, number of leaves and the number of
strides/branches, the results indicated that sewage water contains nutrients
which are essential nutrients for productivity levels (grass growth) and soil
fertility.
