ABSTRACT

 The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of entrepreneurial skill on manpower development in Nigeria. In order to achieve this, the study focuses on Phinomar Nigeria Pic Ngwo Enugu. The study made use of primary data obtained with the use of structured questionnaire administered to the staff and management of Phinomar Nigeria Pic. The study equally made reference to standard textbooks and journals in the field of entrepreneurship and manpower development. The data obtained from the structured questionnaires were presented with tables and figures. Some hypotheses were formulated in the course of the study and were tested using correlation statistical tool. With respect to the first hypothesis, the study rejected the null the hypothesis and accepted the alternative which states that the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills by the staffs of Phinomar Nig Ltd has significant impact on the productivity of the staffs. With respect to the second hypothesis, the hypothesis rejected the null hypothesis and accepted alternative hypothesis which states that the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills by the staff of Phinomar Nig Ltd has significant effect on the business profitability. With respect to the third hypothesis the study rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative which states that the entrepreneurial skill possessed by the staff of Phinomar Nig, Ltd has significant effect on their performance. With respect to the fourth hypothesis, the study also rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative which states that on the job training in Phinomar has a significant effect on the acquisition of entrepreneurial skill by the staff. From the study it was found that, acquisition of entrepreneurial skill by the staff enhances firm productivity, firm profitability and organizational performance. It was equally found out from the study that on-the job training helps the staff of the organization to acquire entrepreneurial skills. The study therefore concludes that the acquisition of entrepreneurial skill is an important factor which contributes positively towards the survival and profitability of any organization. The study then recommends that organizations should invest on the training of their staffs to acquire entrepreneurial skills through organizing periodical training and on the job training as this will in turn enhance the performance and productivity of the these staffs and also impact on the profitability ofthe firm.
