ABSTRACT

This study on effects of leadership style on organizational productivity in the manufacturing industry was conducted using Dufill Prima Foods in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The study tried to examine the effect of leadership on organizational productivity in the 'manufacturing industry, ascertain the effects of mentoring and team leadership on employee performance, determine the effects of motivation on employee output and analysis the effect of leadership style that affect organizational performance in the company. Thus 253 employees were selected using simple random sampling technique. Data was obtained through primary and secondary sources. Data from respondents was analyzed using multiple regression analysis, simple percentages, multiple regression model, correlation models and correlation coefficient. The study employed Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS: 15 version). The study revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between leadership style and organizational performance. In other words, adoption of better leadership styles leads to a significant increase in organizational growth. Productivity, work environment, employee output, experience, relationship with supervisors and work condition have been found to significantly improve organizational growth. The R? (coefficient of multiple determination) which is 0.767 shows that 76.7% variation in the dependent variable (organizational productivity) is accounted for by the independent variables, indicating best goodness of fit. From the result, all the variables affect organizational growth positively. Hence, the researcher recommended that leadership style, educational level, salary, work environments of the firm should be improved. And also workers should be promoted when due and allowed to stay on the job in order to have rich experiences.
