ABSTRACT

 This research centers on Effect ofwork Environment on Employee Productivity using Abia state civil service as a study. Civil servants are the machineries or tools used by the government to implement and carry outgovernment policies and programmes. They are vehicles through which the activities ofgovernment arefelt in the society. The'programmesl policies and activities ofthe government via Abia state civilservice can befelt in the society when civilservant understand and know what constitutes their environment. The purpose ofthis study is to review what constitutes the environment, to ascertain ifthe civil servants know their environment and to determine the effects oj the environment on their productivity. In realizing the purpose ofthe study, 315 civil servants were studied using questionnaires. Their responses were also analyzed using statistical tools like simple table, percentage and chi-square (x2) based on the data collected and analyzed. The following findings among others were made: civil servants are not aware ofwhat constitutes their environment; civil servants do not know their environment, their productivity is determined by their working environment. Sequel to the findings, the following recommendations among others were made. (1) Civil servants should be educated on and about what constitutes their environment. (2) Government should makefrantic effort informulating policies that will enhance the working environment and security ofthe civil servants in Abia state..
