ABSTRACT

 The study investigates the effect of team work and employee cohesiveness on organizational performance (A study ofMinistry ofLabour Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria). Specifically the study determine the effect ofcollaboration on organizational performance; examine the effect of synergy on organizational performance; ascertain the effect of collectivism on organizational performance and ascertain the challenges of teamwork and employee cohesiveness on organizationalperformance. The study adopted survey and descriptive design and Random sampling technique were also adopted. A total 350 staffofMinistry ofLabour Umuahia were usedforthe study. Taro yammeformular were used determine a sample of187 stafffrom the population. More so, 178 questionnaires were recoupedfrom the respondents. Primary data sourced from distribution of questionnaires to staff of Ministry of Labour Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria were usedfor the study. A test-re-test was conducted to ensure validity and reliability ofthe data. The data were presented using 5 point Likert scale and analyzed using simple and multiple regression model (SPSS). The descriptive result shows that 48.3% and 55.1% of the respondents strongly agree that employee integration, shared responsibility have effect on organizationalperformance; majority ofthe respondents 48.9%>, 63.0%, 69.1% and 68.0% strongly agree that corporate synergy, human-synergy, employee commitments and mutual effort respectively effects organizational performance; majority of the respondents 45.5%, 60.7% and 56.7% strongly agree that collectivism affect organizational performance, The empirical result reveal that collaboration has positive and significant implication on organizational performance; synergy was statistically significant and positively related to organizational performance. More so, collectivism was statistically significant andpositively related to organizational performance, since the calculated value of 4.869, 9.50, 3.258 are greater than tabular value of1.94. The resultfrom analysis offactors affecting teamwork and employee cohesiveness shows thatpoorleadership, lack ofmotivation, improper planning and sub-optimization have negative and significant impact on teamwork and employee cohesiveness on organizational performance. It was recommended that there is needfor the organization to restructure the day-to-day task and delegations in order permit employee collaboration. This will help to increase overall performance of the organization since collaboration has a positive and significant effect on organizational performance. Also, there is need to apply the concept ofteamwork and cohesiveness in most task in the Ministry in order to increase organizational performance, since teams and teamwork help to promote deep learning that occurs through interaction, problem solving, dialogue, cooperation and collaboration..
