ABSTRACT
This study was to find out the effect of compensation on
performance of non academic staff in public universities. The survey research
was conducted using Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike and Enugu
State University of Science and Technology Enugu as sample. The purpose of the
study was to find out factors contributing to job satisfaction and compensation
for non-academic staff, impact of compensation on impact of compensation of njob
performance of non-staff academic staff and the relationship between job,
satisfaction, compensation and job performance of non-academic non academic
staff of Nigeria universities. A total of 116 questionnaires were administered
on respondents. Variables of study were salary. promotion, rewards, indirect
benefits and job conditions. Three hypotheses were tested with chisquare
statistic. The population of study was one hundred and sixty two (162) useable
survey data were analyzed and presented descriptively. Findings showed that
compensation packages were similar in public universities. Results also showed
that Non-academic stalls were not llapp\ with rewards and benefits. The
declining performance of non academic staff especially Non academic staff of
public universities is attributable to lack of job satisfaction. The use of
enhance compensation by management of public universities to stimulated high
performance is recommended.
