Abstract
Mild steel is
one of the engineering alloys that are utilized in many industrial applications
(El-Etre, 2007). Its usefulness is traced to its availability, moderate
strength and cost effectiveness (Finsgar and Jackson,
2014). However, it is susceptible to corrosion in aggressive environment
(Chima, 2021). The challenges associated
with corrosion process in the use of mild steel in industrial processes have
led to material deterioration and subsequently materials failure or that of the
entire engineering system. Most often, the industrial process is always shut
down for proper maintenance at high cost (Singh et al., 2012). Hence, the need to develop means to mitigate or
control corrosion process on mild steel becomes imperative. A lot of scientific
research approaches have been given to the problem of corrosion on metals (Raja
and Sethuraman, 2009; Shyamala and Arulanantham, 2009). Raja and Sethuraman,
(2009b) reported that the use of corrosion inhibition coating is the most
available cost effective for controlling corrosion. The use of appropriate
corrosion inhibitor allows the use of low grade carbon steel, which
significantly reduces the capital cost of engineering project when compared to
the use of high grade alloys in the same project. (Quraishi, 1999).
