ABSTRACT
A computational fluid
dynamics (CFD) model with k-epsilon turbulence method and species transport was
used in determining the performance of a mist fan. For the simulation process,
before the performance analysis of the entire system, factors affecting the
mist system such as number of nozzles, air velocity, droplet size, were
considered by varying the number of nozzle, air velocity and droplet size. It
was observed that a system arranged with 4 nozzles was better off when compared
to 1,2,3,5, and a decreased droplet size favors the cooling performance of the
system. Also, at a moderate air velocity of 2 rn/s compared to Sm/s and lOm/s
there was better performance of the entire system. The simulation was validated
with a mist test rig where the system was effective at a distance of I .5-2m
away from the fan and from the temperature chart a rise in temperature was
observed farther down the domain due to evaporation of the mist at that point.
