ABSTRACT
The decision roles of households in the
purchasing behaviour with a particular reference to toiletries has been a
concern to the marketers. Hence, there is a need to analyses the determinants
of the purchasing behaviour among household with particular reference to
toiletries. The study sought to find out among other things. To determine who
makes the buying decisions with respect to toiletries, to determine how request
the households make their purchasing decision on toiletries, to determine the
effect of household size on the choice of toiletries. The instrument used the study was that of a questionnaire which
acted as a source of primary data. The secondary source came from journals,
Textbooks etc. The study was undertaking with a population of 120 respondents
in Port Harcourt City. Descriptive analysis such as percentages and tables was
used in the analysis. Chi-square test was used to test the hypothesis, and also
regression test was used to test the objectives. Some of the findings were
made; 120 respondents were sampled for the study and all the respondents
returned their questionnaires, household and monthly income influences purchase
behaviour of toiletries at 10% and I % respectively. It was recommended that;
Marketing programme or strategy of promotion, pricing distribution etc. should
be directed to both men and women to reflect their area or items of influence
and the tendency towards decision making also requires that efforts are made to
satisfy the needs of the couples. Finally, it was concluded that; Wives
however, still have more influence in the purchase of most items of toiletries
than the husbands and an increasing degree of decision making is found in
certain aspects decision for certain items of toiletries.
