ABSTRACT

The purpose of this project is to construct and evaluate the class A pan designed for the university and compare the evaporation rate with the pan in National Root and Crop Research Institute, Umudike. The class A Epan was designed base on the standard of Research institute. After evaluating the pans (Pan A, in National Root and Crop Research Institute, Umudike, Pan B, in front of engineering college and Pan C, beside Veterinary Medicine College) for a period of five months (13t June till 13th October, 2013) three pans when compared within the months as seen in table 4.1 and fig 4.lwhich had their means as 82.25, 81.25 and 89.63 for Pan A, Pan B and Pan C respectively while the standard mean were 78.04, 80.99 and 82.20 for the three pans respectively. Fig 4.2 and table 4.2 shows the means for the month of July for Pan A, Pan B and Pan C are 82.02, 80.56 and 90.51 respectively and the standard deviation are 104.66, 101.09 and 107.35. For the month of August the means are 92.90, 99.44 and 75.65 with the standard deviation of 91.25, 98.72 and 104.87 for the three pans respectively as shown in fig 4.3 and table 4.3. fig 4.4 and table 4.4 shows the mean value for September as 62.25, 63.75 and 66.75 while the standard deviations were 76.06, 77.29 and 82.82 for Pan A, Pan B and Pan C respectively. October data from fig 4.5 and table 4.5 had the mean as 119.42, 121.15 and 109.04 and standard deviation of 111.89, 117.11 and 119.00 for the three pans. Table 4.7 being the overall data of the mean for the five months as 84.50 for Pan A, 85.60 for Pan B and 94.10 for Pan C while the overall standard deviation data for five months are 92.00 for Pan A, 94.10 for Pan B and 99.25 for Pan C. Fig 4.6 which have the overall evaporation reading of the three pans for the five months indicated no significant difference between them. The reason for no significant difference could be as a result of the three pans being in the same location and was acted upon by the same amount of rainfall, wind, sunshine and relative humidity. Hence, the pans in school is of the same standard with the pan in the Institute.
