Analysis Of Consumer Willingness To Pay For Counterfeit Leather Product In Abia State
ABSTRACT
The study analysed the consumers' wiIliigness to pay for counterfeit leather
products in Abia State, Nigeria. Four (4) research questions were formulated
to guide the study. The population of the study consisted of respondents
selected from the three (3) senatorial zones of the state. One (1) Local
Government Area was selected from each senatorial zone. From each Local
'Government Area, fifty (50) respondents were selected. The respondents
were of different occupatibn and educational background, making a total of
150 respondents.
The instrument used to collect relevant data was a structured questionnaire.
Descriptive statistics was used to analyse data on the first three research
questions while binary logit model was used for the fourth. It' was found that
age, education, price, income and gender play critical role in the consumer's
willingness to pay for counterfeit leather products. It was recommended that
,ducation of the consumers should be stepped up to enable them make
better choice. Income level should also be improved. Pricing of items should
also be looked into possibly, the issue of making raw materials available to
producers.
