ABSTRACT
There are increasing change and development of
information in healthcare systems. Given the increase in aging population,
managers are in need oftrue and timely information when making decision. The
aim of this study was to investigate the current status of the health
information management system for the elderly health sector in Nigeria. The
complexity of the meaning of the concept of ageing, the nature of age-related
health problems, the current trend of population ageing, the social impact of HIV
and AIDS, and the prevailing socio-economic situation ofthe country pose new
challenges in the care and well-being ofthe older persons. These factors might
have negative or positive impact on the quality of life of the older people and
influence their perceptions about the ageing phenomenon. Governments and health
professionals are challenged . to develop programs and interventions that would
enable the older persons to enhance or maintain their quality oflife. This
research work aim at designing, developing and implementing ■ information
management system for aged people health care. The main objective is to convert
a manually operated system into automated system. The objectives of the study
were to describe the live experiences ofthe older persons ofNigeria, the
meaning attached to ageing or being old in Nigeria from the perspective of
older persons themselves, to create a system that will lessen the burden of
aged people’s health care, to promote fast and reliable health care system for
aged people, to automatically conduct an inventory of the aged people health
care. The adopted research methodology for this project aged people health care
information system is the waterfall model. The waterfall model is a popular
version ofthe systems development life cycle model for software engineering.
Often considered the classic approach to the systems development life cycle,
the waterfall model describes a development method that is rigid and linear
