ABSTRACT
Newspaper and magazine are information matedals. They are said
to be the most important current sources of information. They are
used in libraries, especially academic libraries. Newspapers and
magazines are serials on their own right,
According to Onwuka (2004) newspapers and magazines are
serials which are published at regUlar intervals in quick succession.
Newspapers and magazines have taken a pride of place as
information sources. in the, wodd. Some local newspapers and
Weok. Borne are religious in thei inclinatkm, eg. Thcy
have varying frequencies; some are daily or weekly, lortniçjhtly or
montIly as the cas may be. The management of newspapers and
magazines involves ways in which inlormation materials nra
managed and inaintaiiied. In tho same way as books, newpnpor
and magazines are selected, acquii'ed, catalogued and cIassi1kcI,
stored and preserved and ultimately disseminated to meet the
information needs of the user.
Academic libraries can be seen as the heartbeat of the educational
institution. According to William S.Dix (1979) the basic test of the
quality of. anacademic library or libraries in general is the ability to
get introduced into the brain of the readers what information (hey
want and vhenever they want it.
