ABSTRACT
This study on the availability and accessibility
oflibrary resources by Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduate
students ofuniversity of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, was to find out the extent
ofavailability and accessibility of library resources by LIS undergraduate
students of the 2018/2019 academic session. The Descriptive Survey Research
Design was adoptedfor the work with population size of285. Purposive Sampling
technique was used to get 114 sample size which represents 40% ofthe total
population as supported by Borg and Gall (2006). 112 out of 114 sample size of
the undergraduate students provided the data for the study which represents
98.5% response rate. Thefindings ofthe study revealed that information
resources were available and accessible in the university of Uyo library but
some ofthem are not up-to-date. It revealed that the undergraduate students
seldom use the library resources available for them and this has led to
under-utilisation ofsuch resources. This was attributed to the unfriendliness
ofsome library staff disorganisation oflibrary resources on the shelves, lack
ofin depth orientation on library usage with respect to the use of catalogue
and the online services etc. Therefore, library orientation should be more than
mere library tour rather, it should be practical in nature where students are
exposed to library usage with regards to the use ofcatalogue card/OPAC. Current
and up-to-date information resources should be made available and accessible to
the students through services provided by the library staff
