ABSTRACT

 This study was on a survey of record of management practices in Abia State Judiciary. It investigated the records management practices in terms ofrecord, creation, storage, retrieval, policies and problems associated with records management in the judiciary. The survey design was usedfor the study, with the questionnaire as the instrumentfir data collection. The population ofthe study was (30) thirty records management staff ofthe judiciary, the method ofanalysis was the use ofdescriptive statistical tables andpercentage to analyze and present. The findings revealed that wooding system offilling was adopted, due to the fact that it is commonly used in the judiciary. Records ofgeneral administration is the most important record kept by the staff of Abia State judiciary, the study also recommends that there should be adequate accommodation, funding for records management and purchase of more modern equipments. The research conclude that the type ofrecords management and management practices in terms offilling system, recordsformat, storage andpresentation, security and disposal are almost the same, but some records management adopted by each court ofthejudiciary is dependent on the availablefunds and management practices.
