The Place Of Academic Libraries In The Accreditation Of Undergraduate Programmes In Nigerian Universities: A Case Study Of Mouau:- Mbamara Precious
ABSTRACT
The study focused on The Place
ofAcademic Libraries in the Accreditation of Undergraduate Programmes in
Nigerian Universities, case study of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike. This research was carried out between November 2017 andAugust 2018.
The research design was a descriptive survey. The studypopulation wasfifty
seven (57). The major instrumentfor date collection was the questionnaire
complimented with documentary sources. Fifty seven well-structured
questionnaires were distributed tofifty seven respondents andfifty representing
(87.7%) were received and analyzed using a combination of inferential and
descriptive statistics such as mean, percentages, standard deviation and
tables. The studyfound out among other things thefollowing: Without the library
there would be no accreditation of the university (3.96), growth ofthe library
implies growth ofthe university (3.96), the libraryfacilitates teaching and
learning (3.90),the library head is part of the university management
(3.44),institutionalpriority is reflected in the library (3.74) etc. The
recommendation made includes among other things adequatefunding ofthe library
(3.94), provision ofsteady and reliablepowersupply (3.10), expansion of library
building to create more space (3.96) etc. as these will help in all round
improvement ofthe library
