ABSTRACT
The study explored digital inclusiveness in
libraries, focusing on providing access and resources for diverse user groups
at Rivers State University library. A descriptive research design was adopted
The population consisted of3.212 postgraduate students in the 2023/2024
academic session. Simple random sampling technique was employed to determine
the sample size of341. Data were gathered using a self-designed 4-point Likert
Scale questionnaire. The questionnaire addressed key areas such as access to
digital technologies, literacy, and affordability in enhancing resource
availability and accessibility for diverse user groups. Respondents rated their
agreement with statements on a scale from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 4 (Strongly
Agree). Descriptive statistics were usedfor data analysis, while Pearson
Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was applied to test the hypothesis at 0.05
level ofsignificance. Out of341 questionnaires distributed, 125 were returned,
yielding a 36.7% response rate. Of these. 118 were validfor analysis, resulting
in a utilization rate of35.0%. The findings provide among others valuable
insights into the role of digital inclusiveness in fostering equitable access
Io library resources for diverse user groups at Rivers State 'University. The
study recommends among others that Rivers State University Library should
collaborate with local govei nment and private sectors Io establish community
Wi-Fi hotspots and provide free or subsidised access to digital resources,
implement comprehensive digital literacy programs targeting marginalized groups
to enhance their skills in navigating digital platforms, and explore
partnerships with technology companies and non-profit organizations Io create a
device loan piogiam and provide subsidiesfor internet access, thereby bridging
the digital divide and ensuring equitable educational opportunitiesfor all.
