ABSTRACT

 The purpose of the study was to examine the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the management ofinformation resources in Alvan Ikoku Federal College ofEducation library. The research design used was a descriptive survey. The study population consisted of 47 library professionals from Alvan Ikoku Federal College ofEducation library. The sample size for the study was 47, as the whole population was enumerated.A Likert-four point rating scale were used as data collection instruments. The questionnaire was distributed to 41 librarians; all was returned and used for analysis. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean scores and frequency with the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The study revealed that the available ICTfacilities in Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education library are CD-ROM databases, scanners, photocopier, telephones, e-books, computers, television, compact disk read only memory, DVD's, internet and electronic Journals. It also revealed that the major Challenges to the application ofICTfacilities in the college library are; inadequate funding, shortage of manpower, Intermittent power supply. Staff attitude towards ICT use, Inadequate staff training opportunities. Poor infrastructural facilities, Cost ofICTfacilities, Technophobia by library staff High rate ofdata base subscription and Poor and insufficient Bandwidth for effective use by the library.The recommendations made to resolve the Challenges to the application ofICTfacilities in the college library includes; increased funding ofthe college library, qualified staffneeded in the library, steady power supply through the use ofsolar systems, proper measures to avoid system failure, staffshould develop interest in the use ofICT, organizing workshops, projects to ensure proper training of staff on ICTfacilities, adequate provision offund by the government and parent institution to help get infrastructuralfacilities needed, enough fund to help purchase the requisite ICTfacilities, proper maintenance oj ICTfacilities, constant upgrade to newer technologies, enactment of policies by the library management, adequate training oflibrary staffto eliminatefear, provision ofadequatefundforsubscriptions andprovision ofqualitative band width.
