ABSTRACT

The attendance is done by clicking ofcheckbox next to student’s name that are present. In most educational institutions the attendance is taken manually. Over the years the manual attendance management has been carried across most of educational institutions. To overcome the problems ofmanual attendance, I have developed web based attendance Management System based on web server, which can be implemented on any computer. The problem statement of this research focus on capturing attendance manually which is unsecure, unreliable and it can be lost., Some institutions that uses punch card for attendance will be difficult for lecturers to keep track ofthe large number ofstudents, the issue with the use ofelectronic cards or password based system for attendance allows for pretense since cards or passwords can be shared and transfer or someone can ask other person to enroll for them, Capturing attendance manually is not always accurate because students cheat by signing for a person who is absent and record their friends’ attendance falsely, it is also time consuming, poor academic performance of • students due to inconsistency in lecture attendance. The project focuses on the development of a software based application for department attendance management system that will be web based; fully responsive and flexible and can be accessed from any computer no matter where you are. The objectives ofthis research are to develop a platform for an automated calculation of department attendance, build a database structure used to store data, design a module that register student’s details, create a platform that increases security for attendance, design a platform that eliminates duplicate data entry and errors in time and attendance entries, design a platform that eliminate paperwork and save time, create a platform that displays attendance with student’s information. In this application, PHP is server side language, MySQL and PHP is used as back-end design and HTML, CSS and JavaScript are used as front-end tools. The system communicates with database residing on a remote server. It calculates automatically, the attendance percentage of students without any manual paper-based work. The system facilitates the end users with interactive design and automated processing of attendance management software.
