ABSTRACT 

Business set-ups are always visited with a lot of uncertainties in its various areas of 

operation. With these numerous setbacks and uncertainties in mind, our aim in this 

thesis is to establish a stochastic model for a named copying centre. To do this 

requires the derivation of probability models for three-system characteristics 

namely, the number of customers arriving at the centre per hour, the service time 

per customer, and the waiting time per customer. After data collection, analysis of 

variance technique to show that the system variables were the same over the weeks 

of study was carried out on the data before the waiting line analysis. The inter rate 

of arrival of customers and their arrival rates were both exponential and poisson 

respectively. 

The service rate was also exponential, 

The Traffic intensity for the centre (p) 0.30 and only one customer on the 

average can be found in the system at any random time in an hour. 

The servers were idle most of the time, about 70% of every hour.
