ABSTRACT
The zeer pot fridge was modeled using a mechanistic approach
to represent energ) and mass flow in and Out of the system which is expected to
cater for any zeer pot fridge ith gi'en dimensions and spherical geometry. The
model was aimed at predicting the water replenishin rate and mass of water
evaporating through the body and surface of the zeer pot by var\ing relative
humidity and ambient temperatures of different states in Nigeria from .lanuar)
to December. All equations were solved using the software package EES
(Engineering iiiiation Solver), which is a general equation-solving program that
can numericall\ solve non-linear algebraic equations with a measure of high
accuracy and computational speed. ReLlIt evaluations as analyzed in the model
predicted that 37.44 kg of sand is used for the zeer pot fridge while about
5.35 kg/s of water is needed at the system's initiation hut at varying wiihient
temperatures, relative humidity and wind speed of different months, the water
replacement rate of the zeer pot fridge differ from states to states.
Experimental results also predicted that the volume of water needed to
replenish the lost one during the mean months of dry season l'or ten states in
Nigeria are 2.43, 3.19, 2.10, 2.43, 2.43. 3.78. 2.43. 2.43. 4.05 and 2.97
litres respectively while for rainy season (July) the mean months are 1.92,
2.54. I .92. 2.11. 2.19. 2.37. 2.27, 2.11, 2.43 and 2,32 litres respectively. A
well-detailed table(s) and chart sllo\\ingthe validation of this model is
presented in this work.
