Abstract

 A law firm is a firm that renders legal services to individuals and organizations as well. Law firms generally run similar processes based on the Nigerian Legal system. The structure of a law firm looks quite simple, but the magnitude of the services being rendered, outweighs the complexity of its structure. These services require accuracy, speed, professionalism and precision. Over the years, law firms have been running a manual system which contained a lot of flaws, hence accounting for the complexity of even the simplest process. Durueke Law firm has existed for over a decade and has since been operating a manual mode of managing information. This research work out of the need for a computerized management information system to help manage data in the law firm, as this is of utmost concern. This research work covers a study or review of law materials and journals to get an insight into what is required, and the prioritisation of activities in a law firm. It also studies the Nigerian legal system, the English legal system, and the professions that exist in them and selects the optimum system model to adopt in designing a new model for this law firm. Though a desktop application, this research work will help to solve the filing problems of the law firm if adopted, as it makes use of the Graphical user interface of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, the power of its AdoDC and the resources provided by Microsoft Office Access 2000 in managing data for the firm. A management Information System of a Law Firm is the main aim of this research project.
