Abstract
The aim ofthis study was to investigate
internet awareness and use by undergraduate oflibrary and information science,
Michael Okpara University ofAgriculture, Umudike. The study was guided by six
specific objectives and six research questions. The descriptive survey
descriptive research design was usedfor the study. The study population
consisted of373 undergraduates drawn from 3001 and 4001 ofthe department under
study and the proportional random sampling technique was usedfor the study. A
sample size of193 students was drawn for the study. Afour point rating scale
questionnaire was usedfor data collection. A total of 193 questionnaire was
distributed, ofwhich a total of157 copies was dulyfilled, returned and usedfor
analysis. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics ofmean
scores and standard deviation with the use ofStatistical Package for Social
Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The study found that the undergraduates oflibrary
and information science in MOUAU are aware ofthe internet and make use of them
frequently. The study also showed that there are many reasons why the students
oflibrary and information science make use ofthe internet which include
recreational, academic and communication purposes. The study identified the
problemsfacing internet use by the students oflibrary and information science
and based on that recommended some solutions to the identifiedproblems.
