ABSTRACT
The main objective of this work is to fit the distribution that best fits the data of the.Iength of stay of
patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and retroviral diseases in the federal medical center
univahia. This will be done by first plotting a histogram and plotting a curve from the histogram from
the curve we can deduce the distribution(s) the data follows. After fitting the distribution we determine
the one(s) that best fit from the curve using the chi-square goodness of fit test.
The length of stay of patients in a hospital is a statistical calculation often used for health care planning
purposes. The idea behind this concept is to determine the number of days patients with similar illness
are expected to stay in the hospital. With the knowledge of the number of days patients are expected to
stay we can know what challenges the hospital is facing and how tackle them. it is known that patients
admitted for treatment with the same medical condition may experience considerable variation in the
length of stay, and it is widely held that reductions of time spent in hospital will reduce costs with-out
compromising patients health or outcomes.
