ABSTRACT

The data used in this study is a secondary data on which an investigation was carried out to examine the effects of sex, season and genotype on the net body weight of goats. The seasons were; early rainy season, late rainy season, post rainy 'a season and dry season, the sex (male and female) and genotype; I, II, III, IV, V, VI. The specific objective of this study is to know whether the net body weight of goats depend on their sex, the season, their and or their interactions. The method of the Analysis of variance for the split-plot design was used for this study. The method of least squares was used to estimate the model parameters which were used to compute the analysis of variance for the split-plot design table, where one of the factors (sex) did not seem to have a significant effect on the net body weight of goats so, we collapsed the split- plot design into a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), following this new design, a revised ANOVA table was formed which shows that season, genotype and their interaction has effect on the net body weight of goats. The method of mean separation using the Fisher's Least Significant Difference (FLSD) was used to identify the season(s) and genotype(s) that are significant since they showed significance in the revised ANOVA table. Thus, the result of the FLSD analysis shows that only the effect of season 2 (late rainy season) is significantly higher than the others with respect to genotype, the effect of all the genotypes were found to be significantly different except I and VI which do not seem to differ significantly.
