ABSTRACT

The Internet has been a commonly accepted means in technology for conducting daily activities, the growth of the Internet since the starting of a new millennium has been extraordinary and it has created a new type of commerce: Trading on the internet (E-commerce).Online business or e-business is any kind of business or commercial transaction that includes sharing information across the internet. E-commerce (electronic commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services or the transmitting of funds or data over an electronic network, primarily the internet. The problems inherent in the existing manual way of trading are it is difficult to sell off unwanted and buy wanted goods and services, it is time consuming to locate people who can render certain handy services e.g. carpentry, people who have services they can render for money do not have an appropriate platform to advertise them. The objectives of this study are to develop a web based trading platform using HTML5 and PHP, design a web based platform where sellers can easily find buyers willing to accept their trade with convenience and vice versa using CSS3 and Bootstrap4, design a structure for effective and efficient data storage and retrieval using MYSQL, limit internet fraud and control user access by providing multilevel user control and identification. The waterfall methodology for system analysis and design was employed, HTML, CSS3, BOOTSTRAP4 and PHP were employed for the design and development of this work and MySQL was adopted for the database design.
