ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been enormous interest in markov processes and their applicatons. Examples of this application may he found extensively throughout the biological, physical, mathematical and social sciences as well as in education and business. Complexity and dynamism have been continuing challenges to man's understanding and control of his physical environment. In the development of logical structures to describe these phenomena, the models originated by A.A Markov stands as a major accomplish. Consequently Markov models represents the first outpost in the domain of dependent models that is powerful both in c:apturing the essence of many dependent systems observed in practice and in providing the analytical and computational results necessary to gain insight to their behavior. This work is e:pcted to give an overview of the movement of students into higher cl es in Estate Grammar School, Ilupeju. The study is aimed at getting the transition pattern of these students over the years given — a resu1t which could be relevant in planning and implementation of education. he data is a secondary data collected from the records file in the principal's office. The analysis of the data was done based on the sex of the students and their class levels. The total number of students that moved to a new class and the total number that repeated a class were used to obtain the transition probabilities and a transition matrix was formed The result of the analysis shows the transition pattern of the students in a matrix form and it also shows the likely proportion of students each class for two future academic sessions of the school.
