ABSTRACT

Entomology is the scientific study of insects, including their relationship with the environment and other organisms. Entomologists study the biology, behavior, ecology, and evolution of insects, as well as their diversity, distribution, and control. Entomology has undergone tremendous development in the last few decades and now consists of distinct but nevertheless related branches and includes stored product entomology, forensic entomology, medical /veterinary entomology, forest entomology, molecular entomology and agricultural entomology, (Figure 1). Over the years, compartmentalization of entomology has become inevitable because of the sheer number and diversity of insect species. Each branch has been created as a result of the peculiar ecology and the biological attributes of the arthropod species grouped within it.
