ABSTRACT x inflammation inflammation was and The study was designed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antidiuretic potential of root extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale) and calyces of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) also known as zobo at different level of inclusion. Twenty Wistar albino rats weighing 120-200g were divided into five groups consisting of four animals each. Group 1 served as positive control, group 2 as negative control while group 3-5 as test group administered ginger and zobo at different inclusion. Inflammation was induced with egg albumin thirty minutes after drug treatment, the increase in paw edema as a result of measured using vernier calliper method before after lhours, 2hoours, 3hours and 4hours after inflammation. The results obtained were presented as mean ± SD. Increase in paw thickness for 1 hour in negative control as (0.98 ± 0.09), positive control (0.97 ± 0.09), the test groups ranged from (0.95 ± 0.10 - 0.94 ± 0.07). For 2 hours in negative control as (0.95 ± 0.18), positive control (0.81 ± 0.09), and test groups ranged from (0.84 ± 0.07 - 0.82 ± 0.12), for 3 hour in negative control as (0.80 ± 0.09) positive control (0.62 ± 0.07), the test groups ranged from (0.67 ± 0.09 - 0.62 ± 0.08). For 4 hours in negative control as (0.70 + 0.06), positive control (0.38 ± 0.08), test groups ranged from (0.81 ± 0.09 - 0.42 ± 0.09). Antidiuretic potential was evaluated by carrying assay on the urine output and the electrolytes. The results obtained were also presented as mean ± SD. Urine volume in negative control as (1.15 ± 1.54), positive control (0.15 ± 0.30), test groups ranged from (0.74 ± 0.67 - 0.43 ± 0.44). Na+ in negative control as (65.0 ± 62.5), positive control (20.8 ± 41.5), test groups ranged from (82.2 ± 25.6 - 75.6 ± 19.7). CI- in negative control as (64.8 ± 57.6), positive control (19.2 ± 39.5), and test groups ranged from (75.4 ± 20.3 - 55.4 ± 41.3). K+ in negative control as (8.48 ± 7.14) positive control (2.25 ± 4.50), tested groups ranged from (8.85 + 2.53-7.54 ±5.17). Hco3- in negative control as (22.7 ± 15.2), positive control (8.40 ± 16.8), tested groups ranged from (34.8 ± 2.78 - 21.5 ± 14.4). Reduction of paw thickness in inflammation by zobo + ginger at 4 hours indicated that this combination has anti-inflammatory potential. And the results for urine volume and electrolytes showed no difference, this showed that the inclusion of zobo and ginger has no antidiuretic property
