The Prevalence Of Urinary Schistosomiasis Among Primary School Children In Aguata L. G. A. Of Anambra State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT

A Survey of urinary Schistosomiasis was conducted in three primary Schools, in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria. Out of the 498 pupils examined 14 (2.8%) were infected this thus giving an overall prevalence of 2.8%. The highest prevalence rate by School was recorded in lme — Aga Primary School with 7 (4.21%) pupils infected. More males than females were infectedwith the age group 8- 10 years recording the highest rate of infection in both males (5.7%) and females (2.9%). The infection 'occurred more in pupils whose parents v'ere farmers. Higher rate of infection was recorded among pupils who had the pond as their source of water supply.
