The Prevalence Of Hookworm Species (Ancylostoma Duodenale And Necatoramericanus) Among Resident Undergraduate Students Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike:- Nzeagwu, Adaeze C

ABSTRACT v The study was undertaken to estimate the prevalence of hookworm infection represented by necator americanus and ancylostoma duodenale,the two major species of human hookworm in Nigeria. Stool samples from 200 students were screened for positivity of the hookworm ova. The prevalence of hookworm infection was statistically higher in females (51%) than males (49%) and this was due to their low sanitary and hygienic condition. Both species were recovered from culture of fresh hookworm positive samples in Haradi-Mori apparatus for a period of seven day at room temperature (25-28°c). Necator americanus larva was recovered from a total of 61(30.5%) while Ancylostoma duodenale larva was recovered from a total of48(24%) stool cultures.
