ABSTRACT

The potential phytochemical and nutritional value of Tetracarpidium

conophorum seed (African Walnut) was investigated. The phytochemical

screening of the seed revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids,

saponins and tannins. The percentage phytochemical composition of T.

conophorum seed was found to be 0.84±0.02 flavonoids, .1.23±0.02

Saponins, 0.377±0.003 Phenols, 0.720±0.001 tannins and 4.17±0.01

alkaloids. The proximate analysis was-found to be 46.19±0.21 moisture,

2.42±0.02 ash, 6.27±0.04 fat, 3.34±0.05 crude fiber, 33.84±0.18 protein,

and 54.13±0.12 carbohydrate. The above results reveal that T.

conophorum seed can be an interesting source of phytochemicals with their

1 potential use in different field, namely food and pharmaceuticals.
