The Determination Of The Kidney Function ‘ Parameters In The Serum Of Typhoid Patients:- Echeme, Adazion M

Abstract V Typhoid fever is a life-threatening infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi occurring more frequently in underdeveloped regions of the world due to overcrowding and poor sanitation. The current study was designed to evaluate some kidney function in the serum of typhoid patients in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike population. Twenty (20) subjects were studied, ten (10) healthy individuals and ten (10) typhoid patients. Blood samples were collected from patients and normal individual volunteers attending MOUAU staff clinic and were analysed to determine the urea,creatinine and electrolyte levels. Elevated level of urea and creatinine were observed in typhoid patients. Urea and creatinine concentration in Typhoid patients significantly increased (P<0.005) while sodium ion, potassium ion, chloride ion and biocarbonate ion significantly decreased (P>0.005) when compared to those of healthy individuals. This study have revealed some physiological and biochemical status in typhoid patients which explains the influence of typhoid morbidity. Extensive research in this field would enable us to come up with a better method of management.
