ABSTRACT

Wood samples from ten (10) typical timber trees known to grow at the forestry research institute experimental plot in Bende LG.A. were experimentally subjected to termite attack in order lo lest their degrees of vulnerability. The wood samples were weighed before and after the experiment. Of these, two samples were most resistant to termite attack namely: Tectona grandis (Teak) and meliescae excelsa (Iroko), six were moderately resistant and registered weight losses ranging from 0.4() 0.92 (g) while two types of wood, Triplochilon scieroxylon (Obeche) and caliiropsis nootkatensis (yellow ceolar) proved least resistant to termite attack, their weight losses being I .98g for Triplochilon scleraxylon and 1.59g for Callitropsis noolkatensis. The weight losses amounted to 25.58% and 20.54% respectively.
